VISUAL STORYTELLING

The province of Limburg commemorated 75 years of freedom since the end of WWII with the transmission of the six-episode television series ‘Limburg Herdenkt Vrijheidsboot’.

The ‘freedom boat’ brings waves of reflection and historic highlights, to tell the story of Limburg’s liberation and its impact on the region, as rotating guests board the vessel. A number of stories about projects in the here and now are placed alongside landmark events in a way that retains the interest of a wide audience. The format incorporates interviews, live broadcasting, historic footage, and statements from experts to offer a mosaic of the stories that define this topic.

In The Netherlands this commitment to remembering and commemorating the nation’s past forms a large part of the public service ethos as well as key marking events in the country’s past.
